Dr Derek Mahony is an internationally recognised orthodontist, educator, and innovator, known for his practical, evidence-based approach to contemporary orthodontic care. In this three-part webinar series with Collective Dental Education, Dr Mahony will explore bruxism, obstructive sleep apnoea, and early intervention orthodontics, sharing clinical insights and real-world strategies relevant to everyday practice.
Participants can choose to attend one webinar or all three.
Webinar 1: Bruxism is not a disorder — it’s a behaviour!
Think of bruxism like a fever. Anyone can get a fever, but a fever itself isn’t a diagnosis — it’s a sign that something else is happening.
Learning Outcomes:
- Critically re-evaluate the management of bruxism beyond traditional splint therapy and occlusal concepts
- Examine the neurological and psychosocial factors contributing to bruxism
- Apply practical, evidence-based clinical strategies to contemporary patient care
DATE: Thursday, 12th March, 2026
TIME: 7PM (2 CPD Points)
LOCATION: Online
PRICE: $80.00
Webinar 2: You’re Saving Teeth, But Are You Saving Lives?
Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) affects many dental patients in Australia. Dental Sleep Medicine (DSM) presents dental practices with an amazing opportunity to provide comprehensive treatment, differentiate themselves, and add a new service to their offices. However, implementing and growing DSM also presents numerous obstacles including patient identification, sleep testing, appliance selection, medical networking, and insurance billing.
Learning Outcomes:
- Screen patients effectively for obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) within the dental practice
- Identify the clinical signs and symptoms associated with OSA
- Evaluate and select appropriate diagnostic and testing pathways relevant to clinical practice
- Determine the indications for different therapeutic devices based on individual patient presentations
- Formulate clear, evidence-based responses to common patient questions regarding OSA assessment and management
DATE: Thursday, 16th April, 2026
TIME: 7PM (2 CPD Points)
LOCATION: Online
PRICE: $80.00
Webinar 3: Early Interceptive Orthodontic Treatment In The Mixed Dentition
Early interceptive treatment is orthodontic treatment performed at an early age during the early mixed dentition and before the establishment of the permanent dentition. Children as early as 6 years old can exhibit significant crowding, severe dentofacial discrepancies, and facial asymmetries. Patients that present with these problems are good candidates for early orthodontic/dentofacial orthopaedic evaluation and treatment.
Learning Outcomes:
- Describe the objectives and rationale for early interceptive orthodontic treatment
- Identify appropriate early interceptive orthodontic treatment options based on clinical presentation
- Assess the potential functional and developmental consequences of delaying interceptive orthodontic intervention
- Recognise key dentofacial components involved in achieving optimal growth, function, and structural normalisation
DATE: Thursday, 14th May, 2026
